Nurture from Bump to Birth and Beyond

Birth and Postnatal Doula Services covering Sevenoaks & Surrounds

“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born.  She never existed before.  The woman existed but the mother never.  A mother is something absolutely new.”  Bagwhan Shree Rajneesh

Welcome to Cradling Hands!  If you are reading this, congratulations!  I imagine you may be pregnant and thinking of appointing a doula for your birth and possibly beyond.

Whether this is your first baby or you have given birth before, every birth and postnatal experience is unique. Birth and Parenthood can be physically and emotionally exhausting and often the romanticised image is far removed from reality. With the right support, however, I believe the experience can be enriched enormously.

The role of the Doula, be it birth or postnatal, is to provide emotional, physical and informational support without bias or judgment.  We are there to provide a constant nurturing presence during labour and those first special weeks with your newborn supporting you in your choices.

As your Doula my role involves building a relationship based on trust, compassion and unconditional support enabling you to have the most satisfying and empowering experience of pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period possible.

Research has shown that having a Doula present during birth can:

  • •      Shorten first-time labour by an average of 2 hours
  • •      Decrease the chance of caesarean section by 51%
  • •      Decrease the need for pain medication by 36%
  • •      Reduce the need for forceps delivery by 57%
  • •      Reduce epidural requests by 60%
  • •      Help fathers to participate with confidence
  • •      Increase success in breastfeeding
  • •      Enhance mother and baby bonding
